Bikesure are unbelievably excited about our sponsorship with True Heroes Racing. In fact, we’re so excited we can’t wait to introduce you to the riders racing for the team this year.
True Heroes Racing, the UK’s first motorcycle race team dedicated to supporting wounded, injured and sick UK service personnel and veterans, to find out more about them.
The True Heroes’ aim is to “engage, empower and inspire”, and you won’t meet any more inspiring riders than the class of 2022.
#61 Dave “Salty” Sellers
A Royal Navy veteran who has over a decade’s worth of racing experience, including both short circuit and road racing. Having retired from racing after competing in the prestigious Isle of Man TT in 2016 and 2017, he returned to racing as a ‘wildcard’ rider in Assen for True Heroes in September 2018 and has been a regular member of the rider line-up ever since.
#22 Dave “Scrawn” Mackay
A British Army veteran of 22 years, hence his chosen race number. Dave has been with the team since 2015 and started out competing in the Ducati TriOptions Cup. On top of competing, he also mentors the Grassroots programme.
#15 Leon Wilton
Though he is currently serving in the British Army, Leon Wilton has been representing the Army for several years now in the Military Inter Service Road Racing Championships. The step up to the British Superbike Championship (BSB) provides Leon with the opportunity to compete as an elite sportsman in the eyes of the military.
#44 Charlie White
Charlie is a serving member of the Royal Marines, and along with being recognised for his years or service, he also became the Royal Navy Royal Marines Road Racing champion in 2021. Charlie will have the chance to step up to BSB, providing him with the opportunity to compete as an elite sportsman in the military.
#89 Chris Ganley
Chris is a British Army veteran who, after losing his arm in 2014 and undergoing rehabilitation, began racing motorcycles in 2017 as a hobby. Supporting himself as a rider, he has competed at club level for over five years and joins True Heroes Racing with great pedigree as he tests himself at the national level. With the support of BSB, Chris’s entry into the Ducati TriOptions Cup means he will be the first rider with an upper body injury to compete at this level.
#3 Chris Duggan
A Parachute Regiment veteran, Chris was recently medically discharged due to the loss of his right leg. Chris is True Heroes Racing’s inaugural Grassroots Beneficiary. Having been mentored by Dave Mackay onto the track for the first time in 2020, he now has his full ACU licence and took to the grid for his first ever race in 2021.
Fancy the thrill of the track?
Now you’ve met the wonderful riders of True Heroes, perhaps this has whet your appetite on spending a day at a track yourself.
With that in mind it’s reassuring to know that as well as brilliant bespoke motorcycle insurance deals, Bikesure can organise special cover for trackdays and other bike events from as little as £67.20, and if you’re a member of Motorsport UK it’ll be even cheaper with our exclusive discount scheme.
