Millionaire sports nutrition founder survived near-death motorcycle crash thanks to local volunteers from blood charity

Stunt rider Zef Eisenberg, who holds the world record for travelling at the fastest speed on a roadster motorcycle at 234mph, says he wouldn’t be alive if it were not for the Blood Bikers charity.

The longstanding charity is an out of hours courier service for the NHS, and delivers vital blood and medicine supplies to hospitals to help keep patients alive free of charge.

Three motorcycles are on call every night of the year, including bank holidays and weekends and currently make in the region of 400-500 drop-offs per month.

Eisenberg, who is the founder and former owner of sports nutrition brand Maximuscle before selling it in 2011 to GlaxoSmithKline for £162million. Became aware of the services provided by Blood Bikers when he failed to beat his own land-speed world record, while travelling at over 230mph at Elvington Airfield in Yorkshire.

He was presumed dead at the scene before being airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary and owes his life to the Blood Biker volunteers and medical professionals who were on call the day of his accident.

Eisenberg explained to Bikesure: “In September 2016 I was trying to break my own existing world record of riding at 234mph on a naked bike, that means no fairing and upright bars.

“Unfortunately I didn’t see the finishing boards and I went too far, hitting the end of the runway at over 230mph.

“I ended up with 11 broken bones including; a broken pelvis, pubic bone, hip, shoulder, collarbone, everything. I was dead when they found me, but the paramedics managed to bring me round with lots of drugs and adrenaline.

“The helicopter left for A&E, heading for intensive care and it was these amazing people that helped bring the blood to my operation to make sure that I am alive today to tell my story.”

Astonishingly a year on from his near-death experience he returned to Elvington Airfield to race on the same motorcycle and has gone on to break even more world records including: breaking the land-speed record for a motorbike on sand at 201.5mph in 2018; fastest wheel powered flying mile record on a motorbike reaching 182.40mph and has become the only person in history to have reached over 200mph on bike and car at Pendine.

Bikesure can offer bikers throughout the UK great rates on their motorbike insurance, with a particular emphasis on helping those motorbike owners who have been overlooked by the traditional insurance companies and brokers.
